Avery Slater

Biography:

AVERY SLATER is an assistant professor of English at the University of Toronto and a 2023–25 faculty fellow at the Schwartz Reisman Institute. Her research investigates the re-conceptualization of human and nonhuman forms of language following the rise of information and computational technologies. 

Slater has held fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Humanities Forum, the Society for the Humanities at Cornell, and the University of Texas at Austin. Her work has appeared in New Literary History, Cultural Critique, and Amodern, and in edited collections Saturation: An Elemental Politics (Duke UP) and The Oxford Handbook of Ethics of AI (Oxford UP).
