Jim Rankin

Biography:

JIM RANKIN is a reporter-photographer at the Toronto Star, specializing in investigations, data journalism and features, currently assigned to write on justice issues. 

In 2002 he led an investigative series into race, policing and crime in Toronto, which led to repeated Star investigations into the police practice of carding. Recent stories he’s worked on revealed racial disparities in Ontario’s child protection system, jail populations, school suspensions and cannabis charges. 

In 2014, North Bay, Jim's hometown, added him to the city’s Walk of Fame, and you can step all over his plaque outside the Pizza Pizza on Main St. Jim is also a Massey College William Southam Journalism Fellowship alumni.
