
Marianne Lahaie Luna
Biography:
MARIANNE LAHAIE LUNA is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto, and a Junior Fellow at Massey College. Her doctoral research examines the impacts of precarious housing on food behaviours, including adverse food behaviours such as food insecurity, of recent Latinx immigrants in the city of Toronto.
Lahaie Luna's passion for research has led her to work with organizations including the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Canadian Red Cross, and the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development.
She also advocates for menstrual health rights through her work with the Lahaie Luna Lezama NGO, which she co-founded. The NGO has helped over 1,000 women in South America menstruate with dignity through donations of environmentally and economically sustainable menstrual products.
Prior to embarking on her doctoral studies, Lahaie Luna earned a Master of Environmental Public Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Science from the University of Ottawa.
